hi, i'm new to rat knives but not new to using knives. i found a rat from ontario knives on ebay first and picked it up, that was before i knew about rat and ontario going seperate ways. then i picked up a rc6 from ebay it came today. looking at them both side by side they are both nice knives very close lines with the rc6 being about 3/4s of an inch shorter. the ontario rat is a d2 blade while the rc6 is 1095, both hold a real sharp edge and both have the same feel in the hand.

that said i like the finish on the ontario knife better and the sheath, the kydex is just not as flexible for me the molle locks only really fit one way up or down and not high enough on the sheath body. fit and finish is really close on both knives.

well thats my 2c i'm really enjoying the forum.

Had a similar introduction to RAT knives. Bought an Ontario RAT-3 before I knew the story. Next I bought an RC-4, and I can say that there is no comparison between the two. RAT knives are far better quality for about the same money, but I will gladly pay extra for RAT quality and service.

As soon as my HEST gets back with it's new sheath may RAT-3 will be up for sale.

Just my opinion but I would never buy an Ontario knife again. RATs are just too damn cool.

I guess I'm taking the opposite tack - I joined the forum, got hooked on RAT, and now I'm looking to buy one (or many...)

Let me know when you do....

I bought my RAT because I thought it was cooler looking then the O Rat knives. It was a brighter cooler orange. I'll never give O rat a chance now.:D

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new knives!

Make sure you compare the warranty offered by each :D

Not only the warranty; but the comradery among the RAT members is second to none.

thanks for the replies thats why i like this forum.

the rat warranty is the best and the participation from the owners makes them just that much more desirable.

my only real thought for improvment on the rc-6 is a alternate method of attaching the sheath to a belt other than the molles. i like to carry the knife on my body just like my sidearm, the molles are great to hook to gear or packs or your vest but i've had times i wasn't wearing my vest or pack and still needed a sticker.

i've had a little trouble with a cordura sheath before, vehicle fire while i was exiting in a hurry and the sheath burned,i got pretty singed too. the knife i used to carry on my equipment belt is a beker bk7. the knife survived just fine discolored the micarta but thats all. the beker has been a outstanding tool for me though. but you can never have too many knives.

You've gotta get an Izula. cool little sticker. The only problem is there is no boot or belt clip for horizontal carry. I think the tek locs are too big. Enjoy your knives.

Dave- check out tek locks for the rc6. I've got one for mine, works great. Can also use the paracord and lock to make belt loops.

Custom made sheaths with wider options are available, like belt loops and horizontal carry. For a price of course.:)

Welcome to the forum.
