Hello. This is my first post in this forum, as I am now considering a Sebenza as my next knife. The model would probably be a small one w/o inlays. Please forgive me if these questions seem a bit naive -- I am not familiar with the Sebenza other than its reputation of being the best folder out there.

A couple of questions:
:) Would it be acceptable to install a thumb stud on the left side to make the Seb open from either hand? Is this a factory option?
:) What blade steels are generally available, D2, S30V? Can this be specified as an option?
:) If I buy from @bay on the resale market, do I have to worry about fakes, (similar to the Benchmades going around now)?

Thanks in advance.

you can get double thumb lugs as an option. No option of steels if buying new it's s30v, however BG42 ones are still around second hand. I don't think you have to worry about fake sebenzas, fakes I've seen stand out like a sore thumb.

Hi Spikedog and welcome. Your knife life is about to change. :D DaveH is correct about all you asked. Ebays fine, but you might want to linger here on the for sale forum and see what pops up. You can get a great deal with what I feel is a lot less chance(like 99%) of getting burned on a used Sebenza.
Good luck, keep us posted!

Welcome, spikedog! Dave H is correct. Check the Exchange Forums here as you can find some good deals there. Someone else mentioned on another post that double thumbstuds "may" cause excessive pocket wear. Not sure as I don't have them. I've seen a few older Sebs for sale that have ATS-34 steel, but those are rare. Good luck on your first Seb!

If you find out you would like things changed on your Sebenza, like the thumbstuds, Chris Reeve will change your Sebenza for you or refurbish it, if you wish.

Have a look at the Chris Reeve website.

If you want to see quite a few Sebenzas, including left handed ones, check out the TNK website. Look under "Production Knives".

You can also buy directly from Chris Reeve.
