It took me a long time to warm up to wanting to buy a spyderco blade however, both the paramilitary 2 and sage series have caught my eye not to mention the superior materials and great reviews I've read. :) Its an awesome looking blade as well. a step up from what im used to for sure ive handled a few and liked them. Im just wondering if any of you have a recommendation for a first spyderco knife? keeping it under 150$ please. Also does the sharp maker really work?!?!:D

Paramilitary 2 would be a great start, as would a Manix 2, Delica, or Endura. (I don't own a Sage...yet) and yes the Sharpmaker really works :)

Welcome!

The sharpmaker is the best invention since sliced bread! Get one! A pm2 and a sm can be had for around $150. That is some serious gear for a that price!

thanks you guys very much:D just making sure i wasn't missing anything good they had to offer. and thanks for the view on the sharpmaker!!!

Oh, there is all kinds of good stuff you are missing, but keep it simple. There's plenty of time. ;) The paramilitary would be an amazing place to start...you will want more. Spydercos are a little bit like addictive. Hehe.

Welcome and I can second surfingringo's recommendation. Although I started with a Persistence, then a Caly 3.5,then a Manix 2. I'm now looking at a PM2. Come to think of it sufringringo has cost me money... quick, if you're smart, you'll run now and forget you ever found us. We have been mesmerized by Spydies and conned by Sufringringo. He's evil, he's after your wallet, he's Satan. Well maybe not Satan, but it's like a warlock's spell. Lol. Again welcome, it's like the "Hotel California" you can check out but never leave!

PM2, Manix 2, Native 5, Junior, Superleaf. So many more, but those you can find under 150.

I know the wicked edge works ;)

I can't make any recommendations on which one to get, but I will ask this: What are you planning on using it for, and are there any particular details that you like/don't like (ie: blade shape, size, lock style, etc.)? While I don't actually have one (just the Byrd version), I really like the Delica for my purposes... The blade is small enough for EDC, yet big enough for most tasks I need it for, and I prefer a back lock over liner locks (personal preference). I took a look at the Byrd Cara Cara 2 (comparable size to the Para 2) and thought it was a bit too big for EDC, for me.

Other than that, my only recommendation would be to get out to a store and handle a few to get an idea for size/weight... I was actually leaning towards the Para 2 sized knife before I had a chance to try one in store, and it was a lot bigger than I imagined.
