So Ive been carrying a cold steel mini lawman, its the right blade size and the lock is great and comfy in the hand.
I used it for a fishing trip and its kinda smelling like fish now so im going to use it for the tackle box.

Which spyderco do you reccomend for an EDC?

Ive looked at the Dragonfly and the Manix 2 online but ive never handled one so tell me about the knife you reccomend the steel it carries and the size of blade, and scales.

thanks

The dragonfly is a very small edc knife. The manix is a beefy folder that have a tough locking mechanism. And as for VG-10 it is a very good steel, it has very good edge retention, rust resistance and easy resharpen.

One of the best EDC blades Spyderco offers must be the Caly 3...
Check one out, you can find some reviews on Ytube.
Be safe.

You'll have a hard time doing better than the Sage 2 if you're prepared to pay $80 or so. If you're looking for something less expensive, look at one of the new FFG Delicas.

Spyderco Salt (H1 steel and about the same size as a Delica). Love this knife in the kitchen. ;)

Your Lawman has a 2.5" blade. The Manix II is an excellent knife, but it's almost twice as heavy and its blade is nearly an inch longer. The Delica 4, or Centofante 3 might suit you better.

Sage 2 is a superb knife. So much so that I suspect any you could find for $80 either fell of the truck, or got run over by one. ;)

Congratulations. Spyderco makes some great knives and have a variety of designs and are getting more. They have great quality.

The Dragonfly is my favorite knife that I own (G10 version). In my opinion you can't go wrong with that. Manix 2 is a great knife too, but completely different. It carries well and isn't too heavy in my opinion, but the blade geometry is all wrong for an EDC knife in my opinion. Blade is just too thick. But if you want a folder that can take just about anything, that's the knife you want.

Another one to consider is the venerable Delica.

Another Delica vote. Its a good an inexpensive introduction to Spyderco knives. The design has been refined over the course of many years.

Depending on your expectations for strength vs. cutting power, you may consider the saber grind vs. the full flat grind version.

The Manix 2 is a terrific knife, if you don't care about a heavy knife in your pocket and your local laws allow for a folder of its size, its hard to beat for the price.

If you're looking for similar bladeshape and ergonomics to your mini lawman, the Native may be for you. Its a bit larger though.

Thanks for the info today Ive purchased a Delica 4 today and its a great EDC
Very similiar sizing to my lawman.
I also went on ebay and got another one but im not sure if I got a deal or not?

Its an original Native, black clipit, webbed FRN handles, CPM S30v steel
for $55.

Is this a good price and knife?

I liked the steel it came with too.

Coming from the Lawman I think you might like the finger choils on the Native. I have the Native S30V version that you mentioned and it is an excellent knife as is the Delica. You would probably love the Caly, Sage, Manix, etc. too.

I only own the dragonfly... so that's the only recommendation I can make. For a box cutter type EDC it has been working very well for me. It has convinced me to look at a larger blade like a FFG delica.

My ideal edc length has always fallen into the 3" range, little more little less.

Knives with handle/steel options

Delica 4 frn/stainless steel/g10
Sage 1 carbon fiber
Sage 2 Ti RIL
Caly 3 g10/vg10 or Carbon Fiber/ZDP-189
Paramilitary g10

These options have all made my TOP favorites from Spyderco for a mid sized edc, in my opinion of course!

Of all these choices the Sage 2 remains my favorite Spyderco to date.

$55 is a decent price for a Native. Assuming the shipping is reasonable, you paid no more than you'd have paid from most internet dealers and less than you'd have paid from many of them. The Native gets mixed reviews, some love the way it feels in their hand, some find it totally alien. For me it's ok, there are knives I like better and knives I like less. The deep hollow grind does make it a relatively poor choice for food prep.

The shipping was $8 , Ill have to wait till it gets here to see if it fits the hand well.
Now Im also interested in the Salt 1 .........would you recommend a plain edge or serrated edge for this one?
I realise its going to be dependent on the tasks but as I have the delica in plain edge would it make sense to get a salt 1 in serrated?
I would use the Salt for fishing mostly, cutting line/bait etc my only concern is re-sharpening the serrations a plain edge would be fine but serrations??
I generally only buy plain edges but the serrations look mighty sharp.

Thanks for the help......this will be my 3rd Spyderco purchase in three days.............Ive opened another can of worms that my wallet wont like! :D

i vote break down the law man and clean it out thoroughly so it wont stink like fish and keep it in rotation :)

Honestly, leave now and save your wallet :) Once you get bitten by the spydie bug is a slippery slope.....

My first is a Persistence and for the price I paid, $25 delivered from a forum guy here, and I am loving it. So much fun and probably a bit on the heavy side but what is one half ounce. Gotta go play with it some more
