Hello! I am new to Strider knives, I don't own one. I am interested in the SA I think... 3.25" blade 7.25 overall, non-tanto.

My questions are what type of carry does the sheath provide? Vertical, Horizontal, Both? Is there a safety snap, or is it just pressure fitted? Can I get this in a steel other than ats-34, Like BG-42 or S30V? Are there other places that I can obtain these other than bladeart.com, not that I don't like bladeart I just like to shop around. If you can't say sites or prices on this board you can e-mail me at drew_awc@hotmail.com .

I am looking for a good small fixed blade that won't be to large and obvious when I am carrying it. Is this a good choice?

Thank you in advance for all responces.

Drew

Drew,

I recently got a Model DB which is the Tanto blade design. Same size as the SA. Got mine from Mike at Badassknives. Mike's great to deal with!

My knife came with a multiposition kydex sheath that allows for a tremendous number of carry options including horizontal, inside the belt, outside the belt with many cant options. The sheath is molded to the knife for a very secure fit, but is easy to draw quickly. The sheat attaches to your belt with a secure clip that is adjustable for belt width. I don't know what the clip is called, but I noticed it's the same clip that Blade Tech uses on their pistol and rifle mag pouches.

The only thing I didn't like on my DB was the cord loop. Mick Strider was kind enough to help me out with this through instruction on this fourm. I cut the loop off, super glued the knot and burned the cord edges. Now I don't have a big cord loop in the way when I want to draw the knife.

This knife is an EXCELLENT carry piece. I'd highly recommend it! Check with Mike at Badassknives. I think he's got both SA's and DB's in stock and his service is outstanding.

Good Luck,
David

I've got the DB and AD. In addition to the carry methods described above, you can also remove the clip entirely and wear it as a neck knife or use it like a slip sheath. These are great choices for low profile fixed blades.

Mo,

What is a "slip sheath"? I thought about the neck knife option but haven't tried it because I thought the knife would be a bit heavy. I'll give it a try though.

I just got an SA a few weeks ago. Love it. It is small enough that you don't look like Rambo if you pull it out to cut open a box, and comes with the best warranty in the business. I'm sure the Strider guys will make it out of anything you want, just cost more and take time. The SA is usually my EDC. The sheath is nice and very adjustable, left hand, right hand, inverted, horizontal...easy and quick to adjust.

I got mine from Mike at Badassknives. www.badassknives.com Great guy to deal with. Check his website, he has some in stock with different color cord wrap. I have and like the black wrap one.

I highly recommend it.

DT, you take off the belt clip and run a strand of para cord through the bottom two holes in the sheath to form a loop. Use this loop to attach the sheath to your belt or belt loop then tuck the sheath into your waist band. When you draw the knife the sheath will end up dangling from your belt out of the way.

MO

Mo, Thanks man! I was trying to figure a way to use the sheath IWB. I should be able to do it using that method.

When you removed the Teklok thingie, did you put the screws back in the sheath or just leave them out?

Drew,

I agree with Oni. I highly recommend the SA. I have an AD (discontinued) which is very similar to the SA and It is with me most of the time. Don't mind if I conjure up some olds so you can get a closer look at it.

Thanks for all the great posts. Apparently I must have one!
AluminumOvercas: Great pics!!! Looks awesome. Blade shape looks almost dead on to the SA.

I have always had good luck with my ats-34 blades, so I will probably just stick with what it comes with. I love all of the different carry options available.

What is the coating on the blade? Is it a rust resistor? If so, how well does it stay on there with use. Hopefully better than the bt2 I have on some of my M2 benchmades.

Again, thanks to all of you!

Drew,
Check the Strider web sight under FAQ. It looks as though the finish is coated with something on the handle so you don't have to worry about rust under the cord wrapped handle.

I think Mick Strider recommended a thin coat of wax on the blade if you want extra protection.
