I have a kabar mark 1 and the protective coating is starting to chip and peel off due to heavy use. So first off, what do you recommend I use to strip the knife? And how long does it need to sit?

I've been searching this forum for the last half hour but nothing is really tailored to my knife (I've checked the kabar forum as well) anyways, what's the best way to force a patina? I'm looking for a natural patina. So I'm not looking to do tiger stripes with mustard!

Also, what do i use to clean it up? I've heard the knives are really rough looking after the coating is off. I have sandpaper and can use a leather belt for the stropping, but I don't own a whetstone or anything for knife maintenance. Would I be able to find a whetstone or anything that would help at my local hardware store?

Thanks

You could try sanding into the finish with some sandpaper, then spraying some paint stripper from wal mart ( can't remember the name, but it is a gold can)

then for patina, I use grapefruit. Just stab it in
