Well, having discovered this forum a few months ago, I've learned a lot. One thing I've never done before is use a strop. I have a Spyderco Sharpmaker, and have used it successfully to sharpen all my knives. I recently have gotten intrigued by stropping, and picked up a Flexxx strop with the green and black compounds pre-applied.
I've stropped all my pocket knives, and the results are amazing. It takes a sharp edge and really makes it pop (or cut as it were!). Especially effective on my carbon steel Case Texas Jack in CV and GEC #92 in 1095. Also works well on a 440C Mini-Grip, Dragonfly2, etc. A much better solution than taking the edges over to the fine stones on the Sharpmaker. I'm guessing stropping will extend the blade life as I'm not taking material off like actual sharpening on a stone. Great stuff!
