This is my first post - to tell the world that I am the proud owner of a SwampRat RMD. I bought a "no waiting" black paper handle. It has some white flecks (as described by the shop website) that may not be ordinary. I love 'em! My baby is unique with a character all her own!!!

Thanks SAHARAT! I forgot to mention the sheath that I also got from the shop. It's the Armoralleather in black. Dwayne did an outstanding job on that.

Congrats! And thank you! :)

Black paper micarta is one of my favorites.

Thanks to you all! Now, maintenance. So, I've always sharpened (USA Schrades, Case, & German Pumas) on stone with honing oil. Can't find the oil now. everything is water based. Do you suggest stone/water or the sandpaper/mouse pad method that I've read about?

Personally I still use stone and oil, "3 in 1" oil is the easiest to find and about the right viscosity, though the smell can get obnoxious at times. My favorite stone is an old black one that I got at a garage sale, its light weight but puts a nice edge on, super fine grit. Might be a razor blade sharpening stone?

I also have a few ceramic stones when I dont want to mess with oil. When I'm really lazy the diamond rods come out, I have one really rough and one very smooth.

Guess I'm a sharpening stuff junky. :o

kenash has contacted me with a good provider for honing oil! It appears that Smoky Mountain Knife Works carries it at a pretty nice price.

I'd pay shipping to get away from the 3 in 1 odor. :)

SR101 aka 52100 ball bearing steel is a fine grain steel that loves a high polish and responds exceptionally to sandpaper. You can use sandpaper on a flat surface to maintain a V edge or on a soft backing for a convex edge.

WHAT? I grew up smelling 3-in-1. I haven't smelled it in years. How can you say such awful things, Dwayne????

:D I figured I'd get fussed at for the smelly oil comment. I guess its like Hoppes, pipe tobacco, and Copenhagen snuff. Some things just have that certain smell that brings back all kinds of memories huh?

I officially recant my former view of 3 in 1 oil as smelly, it is actually rather pleasant. :)

And ether! Nothing like the smell of cracking open a fresh can of .50 cal rounds. It's been 8 years since my last one, I'll never forget the smell.

Hey, if you don't like it, I'm cool with that. LOL I honestly couldn't tell you what it smells like anymore. I think it was sorta industrial smelling. It's been 20+ years since I had a can.
