Three implements from Buck Knives will debut at the Outdoor Retailer trade show this week, including a knife, a hatchet, and a “chopping froe.” They will go on sale in 2015.

Each is made in the USA. The tools are all treated with a red powdercoat finish for rust and corrosion resistance. The 104 Camp Knife has full-tang construction and a 5160 steel blade that’s 9.5 inches long. Its handle is made of walnut. It will cost $80.
A hatchet, the 106 Compadre model, has a 5160 steel head and a walnut-dymondwood handle. It comes with a leather sheath and weighs about 24 ounces.MSRP when available will be $120.Finally, the 108 Compadre Chopping Froe is, Buck cites, a multi-purpose wood working tool. Its 9.5-inch steel blade was built for clearing brush and heavy wood chopping. But the machete-like tool, which measures almost 17 inches long, weighs less than 2 pounds. It will cost $160 when Buck ships to consumers and stores in early 2015.

Thanks for the info, first I've heard of these. I find the red camp knife interesting. Wonder where it will lead, blue, green, yellow.... RS

I like these and could see the hatchet and chopping froe in my future!

It would be tough to lay one of those down and not be able to find it.

I'm really looking forward to the 106 Compadre release. That is definitely on my must have list for 2015

I like the hatchet and knife shape but the main draw to Bucks for me is the Stainless Steel, so I won't have any part in these. The red is a good idea to help prevent loss of a tool though. But it just don't do it for me.

Their other new knives are interesting.

These are 5160 steel.

These are 5160 steel.

Exactly my point. For me a user is going to wind up not always in the best of conditions and that = rust.

I would by only SS for ALL my tools if it was available and reasonable and will live with what ever shortcomings it has. I hate rust and can't/don't always take measures required to avoid. Yes SS will rust and I've got some with it. No where near the degree of carbon though.

Unfortunately Carbon steel makes better tools and with the red coating and a little bit of preventative maintenance you'd do well.

I love colorful stuff. When can I buy one!!

The 108 is in stock and available, the 104 not yet.

I do like the knife, but lordy that color.

Buck has always been colorful. From the Lucite handles of the first knives produced by Hoyte Buck in the 40s to the little 525's that came in just about every color you could think of as well as the 300 series knives with red, and yellow Delrin scales. The Red blades now don't surprise me at all.
What bothers me is the recurve in the knife. Does every new product that Buck produces have to have a recurved blade. Slight I know but all the same.

It'd be easy to do in the fall if there were maple trees near, they turn that exact red color.

I like the looks of the knife and hatchet, but that color with those wood handles are just.. :barf:

How much time did it take you to do that Ferahgo? Honestly I'm not a fan of these "Red" Bucks. Although the grip/handle on the hunter knife (Compadre) looks nice, but I was watching this youtube review where they chopped through some wood and it left red stains on the inside. Whatever the finish is, it must come off fairly easily.
