Hey,

A friend and I chipped in and bought an old forge we are looking to get into making knifes and was curious if anyone cld rec good instructional vids (any info would be helpful) and books. My friend is really interested in making damascus blades. We are located in the Southern Maine area if anyone knows any good local classes or if anyone is running a forge of thier own and willing to show a couple of green horns the ropes that would be great.

Please email me at:

Checkout the NECKA site. We will be having a Hammer-In at my shop down here in the famous New Bedford. When the weather warms up I usually have members down here on Saturday's making Damascus and just shooting the crap. If you want to attend the HI let me know so I can put you on the list. We try to keep it round 35 bodies,it will be 4/22 or 4/29. The VP Dan Gray lives in Southern Maine.

Center Cross video carries Ed Caffrey's videos on basic bladesmithing and damascus. His mosaic damascus video is also due to be out real soon.

Personally, I would advise learning to make a decent knife first, then worry about the damascus.

It is sort of like learening to crawl before trying to run.

This is how I start my students off. I have them make a cable damascus billet and then grinder it into a knife. That's how I started GrassHoppa.:D :D
