Hello all. Wanted to stop in a introduce myself. My name is Jesse. I have always like making things with my hands. I have been doing leather work for about 1-1/2 years now and had made a couple of sheaths for friends and thought to myself I don't have enough hobbies why not try and get into making knifes. So I did some searching around and read an article on making a knife from a file. and so my first knife I made was from an old ferries file. My dad has a forge so i was able to anneal it at his shop. After that I drew the design I wanted on the file. Did some cutting, some grinding and alot of filling. Drilled some holes for the handle, heat treated it and then tempered it. made the handle and got it attached to the knife and then put the final edge on the knife. I think it turned out good for a first knife and not knowing to much.
Since then I have done more research and I'm going to be making my second knife soon. I will be picking up a piece of 1080 1/8 x 1-1/2 from Kelly Cupples on Friday and will be laying out my second knife design and trying to do things better and proper. I have been lurking around here for a couple of days now (finally signed up last night) reading posts and trying to get my questions answered.
