Hi there guys and gals,
So I have been getting the blade fever pretty bad for the last year or so and I figured I could cure it here! I carry a folder daily for work and utility. My two main carry folders are a Griptillian and the Benchmade Warn in D2 tool steel. I have an Ontario RAT3 for camping and such and recently purchased a Spartan Enyo as a neck/boot/IWB self defense knife if places where the pistol is a no-go. Besides hawks and hatchets and a few Cold Steel hard-use knives, thats pretty much my "blade history".

So recently I have been loving the looks of smallish fixed blades with wood handles, specifically that nordic/swedish/finnish type of hunting and fishing knife. It wouldnt be and everyday carry piece but would see use from time to time. Mostly I just want to look at and feel something high quality in that style and add it to my collection. I could spend maybe $200 as a Christmas present to myself without my wife freaking out, but since its a 'want' not a 'need' please feel free to reccommend any price range, I can always save up for the perfect blade. So.......what should I look at?? Thanks very much!

Couple of things jump to mind.

GEC fixed blades, well under that price range. Their (I would call it a small/pocket bowie style) with a full tang, and guard looks great. 1095 steel.

You might also want to take a look in the custom makers for sale fixed blades to get an idea.

I don't want to post the link on here, so I left you a visitor message with a link to one site (they have GEC folders/fixed as well as Queen folders/fixed etc).

In the $200 range, that opens up a lot of choices, even some customs.

You might go googling some of the following Nordic knife manufacturers:
Roselli
Brusletto
Helle
Lapin Puukko

Thanks so much for the help fellas. Unless anyone has a compelling reason not to go with a Roselli UHC Hunting Knife. Here's a link:

Good choice??

Also, FYI, the Brusletto Nautical Knife is mighty beautiful.

Any which one better than the other in any bigtime way??

Here are images of the knives under consideration. These images are from the websites of the manufacturers.

Hi Bobby -

Welcome to the forum -

Since there are a number of great makers that haunt this forum, you might consider a custom made knife.

They are not as expensive as you might think, especially what you are looking for -

For instance, John Kiedaisch of JK Handmade Knives made this little beauty for me - it is called a "Small Simple Scandi", and it is 01 tool steel with a torched oak handle and a custom sheath.

This is a little smaller than you might be looking for, but check out John's forum - he will make you a knife to your specification, and it usually takes less than a month to get it from design to delivery.

Wow thats beautiful! I am going to check out his page for sure, thats basically exactly the style I'm after.

Apologies also for the vendor links and thanks for the corteous correction.

Wow they all look great! Do you guys think a pukko style knife could work as well in an edc role as something, like a spyderco street beat?

Yes. Puukko (finnish only) and scandinavian knives used as EDC usually have a 75-80 mm/3'' blade ad a 4'' handle.

Try an A.G.Russell woodswalker, 22.95 with a leather hip pocket sheath. Not 200 bucks, but I don't hunt with a Purdey shot gun either. Or maybe not traditional enough? Steve
