I have enjoyed, and always carried and used, knives since I was young. I have many fixed blade and folding knives. Recently, however, I acquired my first flipper style knife. It is a ZT 0801Ti so it is an unassisted flipper.

My question is, can the force needed to open the knife be adjusted and if so, does the adjustment involve simply loosening/tightening the screw at the pivot point?

I find the knife rather difficult to open, or, more precisely, I find it difficult to initiate the opening. In other words, sometime I push very hard on the "lever" and the blade does not want to budge. Other times the same amount of force, or less, causes the blade to swing into place.

Can this issue be solved by loosening the pivot screw?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome! The force required to begin the flip is usually called the detent. On most knives adjusting it is an iffy proposition, however, I suspect your problem may be something easier to fix.

On framelock flippers if you rest your finger on the lock bar while you try to open the knife even very light pressure can make the knife almost impossible to open. Check and see what your fingers fall when flipping the knife to see if that's what's happening.

ETA: Oh, and loosening the pivot probably won't change the detent at all.

I'm with Insipid on this one, it's likely a technique issue.

Manipulating it with some attention and awareness will get you flipping it open most likely.

For reasons that I've never quite understood, ZT flippers seem to be especially sensitive to lockbar pressure. Fiddle with your grip when opening the knife. You'll sort it out.

Also, when your finger is on the flipper tab don't push straight down. Think of it like turning off a light switch. Your motion should follow the spine of the blade while applying pressure to the flipper tab.
As mentioned adding pressure to the lock bar makes it even more difficult to open. I'd bet you can find a video on opening a ZT flipper.
Welcome to BFC, enjoy your stay but more importantly enjoy your new knife.
