  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Hi everyone, thought i would introduce myself to the forum with my first knife build, Although I am new to this forum and I'am not new to the search button so I wont bore you with simple questions that can be searched. Recently, I have been looking for a new hobby that doesn't burn my pocket book like my street car so I started researching into knife making, and it seems I have found my calling.

After researching many many hours, I started out with some 1095 and bought myself a cheap little belt sander from Harbor freight and came out with the design. I plan on wrapping my first knife with para-cord and also thought I would take a chance at creating a hamon. I was about to do the heat treatment with this blade but it was windy and cold up here in ND, and the coal forge just wasn't working out with the weather. I decided to make a paint can forge that can be used in the garage, only problem is I live in a rural area and I have no High temp insulation, but my mom does have a boat load of Rock Wool that she uses for growing. One question I have is will rock wool resist heat temps in a paint can forge? I also have several tubs of furnace cement that I can use.

Anyways here's a pic of what I got done so far, and the pic below is a sword that I had custom made.

got my first homemade knife finished, I need to sand and polish the handle a little more but I am very satisfied with my first knife
