Hello all!

I am newbie to the forum. Thanks for having me!

I have a few mogito that I purchased in Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan about 3-4 years ago...not the greatest quality from what Ive seen. While browsing the interwebs, I came across Shinobiya. Thanks to my fiance for being able to translate the site, I found the luxury iaido katanas.

Just wondering, in your experiences, if any of you have dealt with this company, and if the quality of these iaido are better than the "imitation" katanas that i already have? Im not using it for anything other than a display/wall hanger piece...but I want something that is nice and well made. Price range for the particular katana is about $600.

Thanks again for welcoming me!

Jeremy~

Please wait before you buy anything. For $600 you'd do a heck of a lot better with a sword from Paul Chen, Cheness, even Cold Steel. Those swords on that Shinobiya site have NO listed blade composition, just "hard special alloy". Alloy of what, exactly? Old tire rims and zinc? two kinds of steel? the lining from soda cans and hard lemonade bottle caps? Steer clear of any swords listed on Ebay. By "nice and well made" I'd assume that means "functional", and if functional is what you want, check those places I listed. Also worth checking out (for a brand new collector) is SBG, (sword buyers guide- hope it's okay to say that here, they have "newbie info"). I looked at those Ebay swords and some are quite pretty, and if it's just pretty you want, hey, your money, but if a "real sword" is what you want..I wouldn't get one on the bay. More members will chime in with more advice I'm sure.
