Hi Guys
First time posting , just got into knives after 72 years . Was looking for a good pocket knife for general use and picked up a Hogue EX-01 3.5" TANTO with the aluminum handle . I like the knife very much and I'm thinking of buying one for my Son when he returns back from his third deployment from Afghanistan , was thinking of ordering the G10 handle for him . What are your thoughts about this knife .

I don't have any personal experience with Houge knives, but I love their grips!

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in soon...

Welcome to BladeForums!

Welcome!! Hogue knives are very well done. Enjoy the forums and I know your wallet is going to get smaller but your knife collection will grow here on the forums. Kevin

Thanks for answering so fast . The knife has those thumb studs to open , opens pretty easy even for a newbie , l must admit l like playing with the knife flicking it open but how many times can I cut myself in the same spot , better change my technique or keep a supply of band aids close by . I carry right front pocket tip up , I'm sounding like a pro now . I'm a benchrest shooter always carried a knife and tools in my range bag . Always saw people with pocket clips and now I'm part of the family . I liked the Hogue button lock system , seems rock solid , hope it stays that way . Thanks again .

Lots of great info and knowledge around these parts. Not to mention exposure to all kinds of knives you otherwise wouldn’t have known about.

Welcome and enjoy.

Hogue makes some great knives! Welcome to the forum; you are never too old to get into knives!

Welcome! I have always heard great things about Hogue but dont have personal experience with them. I really like how they look though.

cw308 welcome!
its never too late for anything ;-)
glad you came on board in time !
so, if there's anything i've learnt
about gifting, is that one can
never be too sure that
one's choices for others
will be immediately appreciated.
if you intend for it to be a surprise,
secretly probe for opinions from
the intended recipient regarding
the knife in mind, especially for
any gift which goes for
three digits or more.
just my 2 cents.
and btw, great choice!
so if there is anyway i could
be like a far away virtual son to you... ;-)

Welcome. I actually just got a Hogue ex-02 in the mail today. It is a present for a friend. Havent put it through its paces and is a flipper not a button lock but first impressions are very good as far as quality goes. As someone who spent a few years in the sandbox myself, I think you are right on with the g10 version. Much better grip for sweaty or dirty hands. Again welcome, tons of knowledge here and a good group of people.

I thank you all for giving me your time and advise . I get my knives from Blade HQ , they have a large selection and great service . I really like the Hogue 3.5" EX-01 tanto , strong and pretty bad ass looking. I can see how easy it is to get hooked on collecting different blades . Will see how it goes , thanks again .
