Howdy, Moose here. I wanted to introduce myself and get started posting. I'm a long time lurker, new poster. I been infatuated with edged tools since I was a kid, and being a mountain "hillbilly", I have been an avid outdoorsman all my life. I now find myself making knives and sheaths in pursuit of the perfect combo, I think that I have now found it. The BK2 has been the only knife I have used since I got it, and I have created a sheath that I think fits the Campanion to a T. I will be posting some pics as soon as I get some worthy of posting. I do have a question for the forums though, Which do you perfer on your Becker, Leather or Kydex? I work with both, and have made several sheaths for BK9s, BK7s, BK11s, BK2s, oh the list goes on. Leather is my prefered "ride" for some, Kydex for other. My BK2 only rides leather, deeply dyed, and 100% waterproof. Thanks to all. Moose

Welcome to the Becker forum in particular, moosez45, and to Blade Forums in general. I know you said that you've been lurking, but you're not official till you post, so welcome aboard.

As far as your question about sheath material preferences, my personal preference is Kydex. I tend to find a way to destroy any decent leather sheath when I go out, so I've stopped carrying them. Some are really pretty and well made, but I know me, so I'd be afraid to take them out in the bush.

Hey Moose! It's always nice to see a fellow leather lover. Especially among the Becker Brethren! Kydex and plastic have their place, and a lot of my knives ride Kydex, but there's nothing like the look and feel of leather! We'll have to disagree about the dye though...I prefer mine undyed or saddle tan. To each their own, I guess...

Looking forward to seeing some of your work though!!

Heya Moose! My family and I were just down your way last week (camped at Elkmont and went through Maryville several times). So do the folks at Smokey Mountain Knifeworks know you by name? :-)

Just picked up a BK-2 from them Friday and can't stop fiddling with it. That's one heck of a knife.

Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your stay and stop in often. :)

Hmm...Being a traditionalist at heart I often thought about giving my BK& a make over (wooden scales stripped coating, leather sheath) I thnk it would look Cool as heck.. BUt most of the time for me it needs to ride horizontal and for that Kydex is King. So a kydex sheath will probably be my next becker related purchase.

Welcome to Blade Forums...Glad to see another HillBilly  Can't wait to see some of your work ! Been thinking about some Kydex for my BK9

Thanks to all for the warm welcome, I would expect nothing less from fellow "Beckerites" (lol). I got some good photos taken today by a pro/am photographer friend, who also just happens to be a Becker fan, so......

I am going up past Tremont this weekend into what we call "Bearville", to get some dirt time and take some pics.

I like the Knifeworks enough, but they kinda "sold out" in my opinion, as now they try to make more off of "junkers" than quality knives, but hey, they got'em.

Be seein' ya soon. Moose

This my BK2 and Sheath. The design is mine, and well as the leatherwork

I don't have enough love on the blade yet, but I use it in the kitchen everyday, making dinner for my family:D

For the no dye crowd, here's a couple of "raw" shots I got before I dyed it and sealed it

This was my BK7 and Sheath but I sold it to a friend that needed a good knife. This is the Camillus BK7, but the sheath is mine. I went heavy on the rivels for lashing purposes. Thanks to all.

When you where the BK2 sheath in the pic on your belt does the handle poke into you? Where the handle is so thick it would seem a dropper is a neccessity.

I have not noticed any issue with it. This rig has been on 3 outings so far, all to a pretty primeval area a friend of mine flyfishes. It requires climbing over, under and across alot of downed trees and I clamber across alot of rocks just for the fun of being "king of the hill". So far, no complaints, but I like a high ride knife. Also, I wear it at a 4 o'clock position (right below my kidney). I made a similar rig for a BK9 and I added a leg tie down for a customer. He told me later that he didn't even use it. I asked him about sitting, and he just shrugged, told me it didn't bother him. I have made drop downs before, but they just don't feel right strapped to my leg and I hate a bouncing blade (leg slapper). Thanks to all. Moose

That color is great, what kind of dye do you use?

I use a British Tan dye. That's 3 coats, the second coat, I "drip" and let it run to marble the color depth. Also, there is a coating of Bees Wax and lanolin blend on it, that also darkens the color as well. I dye and seal inside and out, so it has drain holes made in as well. I am going to do some non-dyed sheaths soon, not sure why, but hey, why not. Thanks to all. Moose
