Hello all! I was thinking about getting one of the blems or specials one of these days. I just have a question about the sales you guys have on here.
Does each of the prices given include shipping too or does that get added on after everything is said and done?
Any other suggestions that I need to know before I start to order one?

Thanks all,

HI Khukris have some very strong addictive properties...You have been warned...:) :D

shipping included in U.S.

others ask Yangdu for info.

Decide, as far as possible, what you will use it for and what you want, BEFORE seeing a deal of the day (DOTD or Yangdu's Best Buy, YBB), email RIGHT then, and cross your fingers.

Read the safety thread.

Ask questions, folks will help.

Welcome.

The Deal Of The Day is your best bet. Looks like recently some of the sharks have been tapped out. So some blades might still be around for longer than a couple minutes. Some of the rare models or incredible deals get snapped up quickly.

Since shipping is included that is a bonus.

Knowing exactly what you want also helps. Although that can sometimes be all of them.

Second (2nd.) of all Read This and follow the instructions and your orders will go as smoothly as they should.;) :D

As others suggested, definitely read the stickies if you haven't already. There's some good and important info in there. Kismet and ilbruche are right about deciding what you want first.

DsOTD may just be the best value in knifedom (HIs in general, actually). It may take some patience to outshark some of the other HI fans here, but it's a great place to start if you're getting into khukuris.

Okay, I have another question so I decided to add to this one instead of starting a new thread.
For the DOTD, when he give the measurements, is that for the over all length or the length of the blade?

Thanks again and for the welcome.:)

Total length.

Welcome! You will completely enjoy the HI kukri's you purchase. As an added bonus you will get to deal with some of the finest people you will ever get to know. You'll see.

Welcome to the forum. Everyone seems to have answered your other questions.

I'd go for something in the 16-18" range to start off with, unless you have a specific need for something different. Khuks in this range tend to have reasonably sized handles and good geometry and balance. They perform most tasks well, and aren't too heavy to tote around. AK and WWII are the bread and butter models, and others are nice as well. Yangdu usually lists weights, and once you get a khuk or two, the weights will give you more info about what to expect.

Have fun!

thats the thread I was looking for

I would go ahead and set aside 2,000$ for to get a midsized collection going. at about 10 khukuri's you have a pretty good idea of what your looking for, but chances are that you won't want to sell any of them while your still lookin for that perfect fit. another 10 and you'll have found one that's perfect. then you'll start getting into the swords. that'll take another 5 or 6 before your satisfied, then you'll start wondering about the oddities and smaller pieces.

but for now, 2k$ should be enough ;):p:thumbup:

a +/- of HI is that each knife is hand made, so each knife is truly unique and one of a kind. when you hear "soul of the blade", it's a combination of handle size, blade geometry and balance. certain knives feel right to certain hands, while they feel akward to the person standing right next to them. I've found 3 truly perfect khukuries for my hands, and 30 or 40 excellent amazing blades. it was worth the 30-40 just to get to those 3, because I don't think I'll ever handle anything so pure in function and form again.
