Hi all! I have recently started getting into forging. I have currently made 2.5 knives. First was a crude old railroad spike knife, fun for a first project. Second is a skinning knife for my father, he is a butcher and will be trying it out on a cow this weekend. The other is still in rough grid stages and fitting for a white tail antlers handle, a deer that him or I killed a year ago.

I have very few real tools for now. I made all three of these knives on a piece of old railroad track. I recently barrowed an anvil from a friend, next knife will be made on there.

I am attaching my knives on to this post. Don't be too rough on me, far from the quality of the knives I have seen on here. But any tips or suggestions are much appreciated for a newb.

That blade is reminiscent of some of the Ol' Hickory patterns I've seen. The handle looks the same, too!

As far as input on improving, perhaps you should ask the mods to move this thread over to the knifemaker section. Probably get a lot more technical feedback there!

It was kind of based off of an ol' hickory. My father had one that he has used for 30+ years and it very wore down. He asked if I thought I could make a replacement.

Thanks for pointing me to that section. I am new to the site and didn't see it.
