I recently decided to buy my first high quality fixed blade and chose to go large with a Rat Cutlery RC-5. I got the plain edge black blade and this knife is truly impressive.

Not only is it massive, but the attention to small details is close to perfection. In fact, I can't find the slightest flaw anywhere. This is all the more impressive since the knife is designed for hard use and will over time show wear. I have Benchmade folders that cost as much, but don't have the same degree of fit and finish. And I'm not dissing Benchmade knives, because I am more than satisfied with them.

My only problem is that I received the wrong color sheath. Is it still possible to find an OD canvas sheath? I really wanted a canvas OD sheath, but regardless, I love this knife and cannot wait to put it to use. Simply awesome!

Of course, I already want more RATs and a RC-3 is definitely in my future!

Edit: by new to the pack, I simply mean I now own a RAT knife.

Contact the dealer and see about a sheath swap is the first step. Hopefully they just made a simple mistake (they do happen) and will make it right.

We have some STUPID dealers. This is not the first time this has happened. I wished it was so we could run herd on all RAT dealers but we can't. Many of them buy from wholesalers and this can sometimes cause us all sorts of problems. The dealers who buy directly from us always seem to be much better at getting a customer's order correct.

I haven't given up, but am frustrated. More than anything, I want to get my hands on one before there are none left.

I got the site I got mine from set straight, they did the same thing to me-the part number and description were switched around.

Well Jeff, you guys have to saddle a little bit of the blame also ;) <--- I remember the good old days when the RC-3 and RC-4 came in one flavour. Back then, what we cared about was having a great knife that did its job. I remember waiting almost half a year for my RC-6 on pre-order. Heck there were production issues and we understood that. When it came, I was so happy with the great blade, the wait was totally worth it.

Now you got the rainbow colour deal happening and everyone is all so concerned about whether their sheath matches their packstraps and shoepolish.... I know, people buy things with expectations in mind. I'm not trying to call out the OP here. But all these color options do probably sell more knives but also cause headaches too ;)

very interesting point, never thought of it that way, have we as knife owners decided that fashion over rules function? hell some of the ugliest blades and sheaths are the most useful, answer this question, have you ever bought a knife due to color or style even though it may not have fit the purpose of the purchase, I have, I own a kershaw zing, and the blade sold me right off, but honestly the grooves really serve no purpose at all, other than to be unique.

Hey Let It Bleed,
I just received my RC5 with the OD sheath form Derrick at Kniveshipfree. I realy do not care about the color of my sheath so if you want to swap sheaths let me know, I'll ship mine to you on Tuesday.

I ordered my RC-5 w/ OD sheath from KSF, and it showed up quick and correct.

Thanks Derrick.

Update: Finally rec'd the correct sheath from dealer yesterday. :)

I really do appreciate all the offers to trade or help.

As an FYI, of course I contacted the dealer from whom I purchased the knife. I posted only after my first couple of attempts went for naught.
