I have been on the forums for a little while. This is my first venture into the ESEE subforums. I recently acquired my first ESEE/RAT knife, the Model 1. I've taken some pics. I am very interested in getting into survival and camping. Naturally I looked around for a good knife company and found ESEE. So this is the start of the sickness and I already have an Izula, RC-3, and RC-6 on the wish list. Also if anybody can point me in the right direction to find places to go and experience nature and the outdoors and get a chance to camp and do some hiking that would be great. I live in Florida by the way. And here are the pics.

welcome to the sickness!

and not to be mean or anything but the ontario model 1 is not an ESEE, the ontario stuff is not the same, if you look in the ESEE FAQ in the stickies section you can find some reading on it

Gundude is right. BUT, I also have that folder and it's an excellent folder! In fact, it' my favorite folder.

I thought about getting one of those folders, but I'm waiting on the Izula folder to come out this year.

OK read the FAQ. Got it. Please forgive me. I really would like to get into camping and hiking and learn more survival skills. Might do the ESEE training course. Gonna look up some camp grounds around the Tampa area to get my feet wet. Er...um...dry...right? Let me know if there's anything noteworthy if you are around my area. Thanks.

I am about as sick as you can get with these blades, well maybe not on this forum,LOL. Welcome man its great to see more and more people join. I am new as well. I like it here a lot, these guys are so knowledgeable about blades, bushcraft, and gear that I learn something new each time I log on.

it is fine, the design is good, jeff and mike designed it after all, but if it has been executed under ESEE it would be great, the izula folder should be great.

I cannot wait to get an ESEE folder. I will always carry it with me for sure! The Ontario folder isn't made in USA just for starters. But warranty really seals the deal, and heat treat, and steel, and coating, and fit and function. Luckily we don't have to deal with second best, real soon.

If you look online you can get a rat-1 for about $30. I "hardly" know of any other folding knife where you can get the quality of knife that you get in the rat-1 for the price. I don't care where the Onario knife is made..it could be made on the moon for all I care. It's an exceptional knife for an exceptional price. I've owned benchmades and spyderco's and I still prefer the less expensive Rat-1 to these knifes. And just to say, I own three esee knives...have owned four in the past. I know their build quaility is top notch. So there's no disagreement there. However, even with the new ESEE folder, unless it's priced at a really inexpensive price point I'm not sure you'll get all the knife that you'll get in a RAT-1. I think it's one of the best deals you can get on a quaility folder.

I have to agree with that. The model 1 is a fantastic folder.

It is a great folder. It's made in Taiwan but the quality is really good. Ontario sells quite a few of these and I am always running into folks who are carrying them in their pocket.

I saw it and was like wait...I didnt see that thing on their website! Instantly went to check it without pause for thought to read further lol.

I'll wait for the izzue folder!

But hmmm...this folder doesn't look so bad...wonder how it compares to a Bencher in a sxs.....

RAT: I don't mean to sound snob, but I kinda am being more mindful of what I am buying now, if I can buy something made in the US I prefer too, unfortunately my Max bags were not made here :(
