Its a Custom Shop Howling Rat "Razorback" It was a limited run piece but I dont remember when or where it was released.

CongRats! Its an uncommon knife, and a great looking one to boot! :D

thanks for the info . wish I could find estimated value and basic info like that ,release date or number of the limited run.

Nice score there. It is a Generation 2 Howling Rat 4-tooth Razorback or Ridgeback. They were made available at Blade West '06 and the Busse Knob Creek Liliputianganzaaa Fall '06. There are 4 variations of this style that were released. At least one had 3 teeth, there are quite a few 4 and 5-tooth versions, and one 6-tooth. I don't think anyone knows the total amount of 4 and 5-tooth versions that are out there, but they are somewhat rare. They were all finished in the Swamp Rat Custom Shop and there is even quite a bit of variation in the way the spine and teeth were ground. I have seen the variation mostly in the 4-tooth versions. It is mainly in the lenght of the grind and where it begins near the tip. All these models sold originally for $158.95. You probably won't find any for that price now, with most that I have seen ranging from $200-$250 for mint versions.

Just for kicks, I know that the 3-tooth version is a bit of a mystery and its location is currently unknown unless it's resurfaced recently. The 6-tooth is in a private collection.

For good info on releases and original prices see this sticky made by Paddling_man. It's at the top of the Swamp Rat sub-forum page.

Beat me to it!:)

well I did a trade and dealt the swamp rat custom for a Dumpster Mutt LE , more of a user for me...I just could not see taken that custom shop into the woods and using it,I really loved it but I want a user...not a safe queen..as the DM LE is new un-used it will not be for long , LOL !!!

Congrats on the DMLE. An excellent blade that uses the same blade profile as the RatManDu - just thicker at .27". Hopefully, the grips will fit you fine. The HR res-c grips fit me great (the same ones are on the Coot and SYK YardKeeper.) The Busse Basic 3 grips (same ones on the DM) feel too small in my mitts.

Oh... Welcome!!

TTD, I think you'll find the DM LE to be a great user -- very tough, but still cuts well. You'll have to let me know what you think of it compared to your TAK.

Thanks Guys,I will compare it to alot of blades...and like in the wilderness/survival section I will compare it to the TAK like pitdog did with the DM.

paddling_man the handle fits me great, though the resiprene c grip on the DMLE is harder than the resiprene c grip that was on the howling razorback ..go figure but either way I realy like the DM and can not wait to use it camping !

TTD- Interesting regarding the hardness. I didn't notice that on mine - I could easily have overlooked it. I wonder if the composition was different? I don't actually recall whether the Basics/DMs were actually sold as "Resiprene C."

Maybe "Resiprene B??" ;)

I think the only reason I noticed was the Razorback was my 1st swamp rat knife and I fondled it quite often and then traded her...2 days later I am fondling the DMLE ... very suttle difference but there was a difference......LOL !
