My name is John and I have been a member here for a while. I just recently got interested in fixed blades. I have a few small Barkies that get used a lot, but recently I received a Scrapper 6. I have had the time to test this knife out in the woods and I am impressed  with the scrapper. It takes a great edge and holds it well. The tip is strong and does not break under stress. Now I would like something a little bigger. What is the difference in Scrapyard knives and Busse knives (other than price)? How do they compare to each other. I plan on using the knife (I am not much of a collector that keeps them mint)

Thanks,
John

For one thing Busses are made of INFI, Scrapyards from SR-77(usually)which is modified S7. Thats just the beginning though.Im sure others will chime in soon with loads of other differences.Scraps are great knives though.

Like mentioned the big difference is in the steel in that Busse uses only INFI while scrappers usually come in SR-77 they have one that came in INFI and I am not sure if they'll ever be in SR-101. The other is handle material, I think that the scrappers are only going to have the Resperine C handles while Busse come in G-10 or Micarta (some older basic models cam in Res-C too).

Welcome, buy a Busse and try it out. Right now is a great time with the ASH-1 being out and its a great medium sized blade and there is lots at the bussecompanystore to look through. If nothing else try a Swamprat as they have the Chopweiler out right now.

Thanks guys for the Welcome. I do not keep up with the steels like I used to. Just just know of the main one like S30V and things like that. I never even heard of the SR-77 before I got the Scrapper. I take it that the INFI steel is stronger than the Scrapyard knives??? On the handle issue, I really like the comfort of the Scrapper, how does the G10 or Micarta feel on the Busse's?

Thanks,
John

Glad to hear you like the scrapper. If you want to learn more about INFI go to www.bussecombat.com or go to http://www.bussecollector.com/ both are great for learning. As far as handle material goes, I like the look of G-10 better but the feel of Micarta. G-10 has a colder harder feel to it in use and I feel can get a bit slipperier in the wet stuff while G-10 seems to get grippier when wet and feels softer? I am sure others have opinions on the matter that differ from mine. I do like the g-10 on smaller busse's and have grown fond of Micarta on mid to large busse's. But all opinion.

Well we John's just keep turning up here. Beats me why but look to be around for many $$$$ to come. Welcome John, this is warmest place to hang !

Welcome to the addiction :D You caught a bug with Scrapper and you're going to pull yourself in for good by buying one of the Busses. These are really amazing knives - and real users - Busse knives are designed to be used not to be kept on shelves. I have never used the scrapper but as as Jerry and others say INFI is superior to SR-77 and to SR 101 in general toughness, edge holding and in corossion resistance, especially in prolonged and extreme use. My Busses have never failed me. I have never had any rust problems on them and they take great edge and hold it very well. As to handles - I love Res-C handle on my old Howler. but I also really like micarta on my busses.

Well it looks like I may just have to get a Busse and try it out. What would be some to look at that have a 7-12 inch blade?

Thanks,
John

In the 7-12 inch; the Steel Heart on the low end, the Battle Mistress on the high end. There are a couple handle configurations out there (Ergo, Fusion, Straight), as well as varients and customs. Check out the 'just pics' thread on the Busse forum.
Oh, and hang on to your wallet! :)

Chitlin Chuck...
