Hi guys,

I am new to traditional knives. Just ordered some custom Saks and just bought a GEC #36 in cocobolo wood. Looking for a smaller knife in the same style and maybe even cocobolo to go with it. Any suggestions. Thanks

Good (beefy) choice. I'd recommend you take a look at a Canoe (#16) or White Owl (#68) pattern from GEC. They are both single spring, double bladed knives. They both also feature rather light pulls if you're OK with that (I think it matches the pattern well).

Both patterns are very similar. The White Owl is slim and low profile while the Canoe has a bit wider main blade and unique bolsters.

I don't know the number for the Pocket Sunfish but you might consider taking a look at the GEC #26 patterns. Similar to the #36 in some ways and right at 3 inches closed.

The Pocket Sunfish is a #26. The smallest companion would be a #09 Esquire. They made 32 of them last year.

Congratulation on the new knife! Nothing brings me more joy than a new knife, it's intoxicating :D I've been wanting to try out the #36 myself, just always having something else come up for a better deal...I've been lusting after a 36 double nail nick northfield in ebony for a bit now...

Well found an esquire in Mexican bocote. I will try to find a canoe, whaler and pocket sunfish. These knives are like chips. Can't have just one.

That is my next purchase. Not a fan of the clip points. I will try to find one in a different wood than what I have.

Once you get into the Traditional Groove it's only possible to survive by buying more:D

Seriously, there are a bewildering array of patterns and choice, this is the intoxicating part. How about having a look at GEC's 25 pattern, comes in many arrangements and handles/blades? Here's my Northfield EZ-Open in Amber Barnboard. 3" closed.

I was able to find a pocket sunfish in ebony wood to go with my cocobolo sunfish and bocote esquire. Now time to find a whale in wood. And maybe a canoe.
