ok guys I love knives but never really liked traditional much!!! recently I have gotten intrested in traditional folders quite a bit though! so with me not knowing anything about them I have a few basic qeustions! I only know of two companys that make them case and queen! are these companys good for the money and are there others I should check into? thaks for the help!!! and any particular models that you would recommend would be great too! thanks!

Hi,

Case and Queen are both very good and worth the money. Great Eastern Cutlery and Buck are also very good. These are US makers that are very highly thought of around here.

Do not forget about vintage brands that are no longer made either. Schrade and Camillus in their USA made versions are quite nice. Though mostly found as used pieces. And the hunt of a nice vintage piece can be quite rewarding.

There are also some overseas makers like Boker that can provide very nice pieces. And don't be so quick to dismiss some brands like Rough Rider. They can give you the chance to try a new pattern that you may never have seen before. All for very little cash while still delivering a decently made knife.

But perhaps the best thing you can do is hang out here and read the posts and look at the photos. You will soon gain a sense of what you might like.

P.S. Welcome to the addiction!!

As I said to someone on a similar thread the other day, you could spend a lifetime collecting Case knives and never run out of knives to buy (at very fair prices).

In addition to the companies that dalee mentioned, I have recently developed a fondness for Canal Street Cutlery. There are also some great custom knifemakers who sell their knives on here.

As far as patterns, my suggestion would be to find a dealer close to you that has a good selection of Case knives and just see what you like.

I have a liking for some Kissing Crane models. Case rules me though. Welcome to another KNIFE CRAZIED habit!! :D

The learning curve is fun, as is the quest for certain knives...
Enjoy. btw welcome to our little happy place

Welcome Matt I am sure you will enjoy it here.....:)
Check out Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC) They make a nice knife.....

Matthew,
I have Case and Queen knives both are great, but, I prefer Case they just seem to have a smoother feel and flow to them in my opinion.
As for type you can't go wrong with a Case stockman or peanut. I carry one of each every day.
What ever you decide please BUY AMERICAN. They are worth the little extra you pay for them and you are also helping support folks here at home.
Have fun.
God Bless
Tracy
