So, I recently acquired what I would consider my grail, a large sebenza, and I just knew that this was gonna be the knife to end my crazy obsession. Well it did end, for about 2 weeks, but now I just cant stop thinking about getting my first nice slip joint. So the obsession continues.
The point of this thread was to get some assistance in weeding through the seemingly endless variety/ variations of slip joints. I've got a few preferences which are all somewhat flexible. I was hoping to get some suggestions, as I'm new to all the brands.
My preferences are;
Wharncliff blade
1 or 2 blades tops
3 1/4" blade (preferably a tad bigger)
Somewhere between $50-100
I've really been digging the redish bone handles

Thats all I can think of right now(Ixm sure more will come to mind)

Thanks for all the assistance,
Erik

That's going to be a pretty large slipjoint. You're going to get lots of recommendations to go with Great Eastern Cutlery, or GEC. They are very highly regarded for production slippies, and they have a huge variety of patterns which means that they'll have more offerings that come close to what you're looking for. For GEC knives I think the ones that come closest are the #92 Talon which is a single blade wharnie, #48 Improved Trapper which is a california clip/wharncliffe combo, #53 Furtaker which is a skinner/wharnie combo, #53 Moose is the same skinner/wharnie but on opposite ends. Out of those the #92 is probably your best bet.

There is also a Schatt & Morgan #05, which is made by Queen. That's a monster wharnie with a single 4 1/8" blade, but I've only seen it in Rosewood.

I can't think of any other large single/double bladed wharncliffes right now, but I'm sure others will be along shortly to list off some more.

Oh, I figured I should mention that this will primarily be a back pocket carry. Thinner would be better, since I'll likely be sitting on it all day.

I'm probably most flexible on the length, so smaller is fine. Thanks for the suggestions.

Here ya go.

Not to slight our other contributing member dealers. KnivesShipFree and GunStockJacksKnivesAndCollectibles are other sources that are good to do business with too.

From your description, that particular knife fits most of your requirements, including the red bone preference. If you prefer stainless steel, you are in luck because GEC just produced a run of those knives in 440C (which is a relatively rare thing for them) in a couple of handle materials.
