after many years of patiently waiting for a nice large delta drill press to pop into my lap for cheap....i gave up and went down to the new woodcraft store and bought a big 20 incher....weighs 350 lbs.....not nearly as heavy as the 20 inchers of 40 years ago..but it will do....must go back out to my shop and drill some more holes in some titanium.. HOLEY KNIFE BATMAN!!!!!!!

Tom, have you noticed there are a couple flaws in that knife?

Why should only you guys with big shiney new 350 pound drill presses be able to make such beautiful knives with all them purty round holes in em!!

That is one fine looking knife Tom!!!
If you'd be willing to put me up for a week and pay my way to Hawaii, I'd be more than happy to come over and sweep your shop up in payment for some knife making lessons. Shoot, I'd even spit shine that drill press for ya!!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

Tom,
Don't forget to take the chuck key out of that monster!! If it flew out and hit you on the noggin you might get amnesia and forget what you were drillin' all the holes in

Cool knife.

But where Jerry lives there aren't any 'Gators on four legs. You need to visit south Lousiana where I grew up to find anything worthy of being called a 'Gator.

It's a fine line between "a hobby" and "mental illness".

Gators in Louisiana, ain't none left. Amos Moses got 'em all, had a big fais deux deux, we ate gator gumbo for three weeks! It was in Lafayette, many years ago! Now we gotta bring in those little fellas from Florida and Georgia.

Amos Moses got mose o' da crawfish, too! Day are $1.99 a pound dis year in Texas AND Louisiana! Dat doggone Amos Moses, I wish dat gator woulda gotten da udder hand too!

Sorry about that folks, it happens everytime I meet somebody from "where I grew up"!!!

Anyway.....

Nice knife, Tom! What's the blade material?

Neil, what I might add to that is not fit for human ears.

Actually that early David Boye book was very inspirational, and motivated me to give knifemaking a serious try. It was/is a good book. Of course I don't do anything like the knives in it or even use the methods he describes, but it's a good read. I recommend it.

Tom, did you notce that second hole in the handle doesn't line up with the rest of them? It's a shame to get so close and mess it all up with one tiny little screw up like that...

On that other subject, our Okeefenokee Swamp gators eat those Louisiana gators for lunch and then have dessert.

Jerry,
As far as the Boye book.... What I like best is all the acid etched blades done by that girl!! That's some outrageouse artwork!!
OK, I got it..... One of YOUR large fighters with a wild SCI-FI scene done by that process on the blade
smile.gif

That would be HOT!!!

Neil, I agree on the etching being the most impressive craftsmanship in that book. She really does have a nice touch. Very elegant.

I'm doing a knife now, a 14" megabowie, that will have copper bolsters with etching on the bolsters tied into scrimshaw on mammoth ivory handles. The blade on this knife is TiO coated, and is a brilliant metallic blue with copper fading into red/purple at the point. Kinda wild! I'm making this to order for Waxes Eloquent/ aka Matt Draper.
