New toy...and made a holster for it

I picked up this nifty little Springfield XDs last week. It's .45ACP in a 3.3" barrel and less than 1" overall width (.9" slide width). It's a pocket sized jackhammer, but not that bad to shoot considering its size and weight (21oz). I put 250 rounds through it Sunday and had a lot of fun.

I have a little Remora clipless holster for it, but I saw a nifty hybrid kydex/leather holster online and thought I'd give it a go at making one. Pardon the leather work as I didn't want to spend too much time on it and used a piece of scrap that was marked up a bit. I didn't dye it or fully burnish the edges either, but if I like it, I will probably cut out a new piece and finish it fully, maybe even with some decorative stitching in the accent line. This is pretty thin kydex, but it seems to work well enough. I need to order or make some clips for it. The J-clip on there is too long and sets the holster a bit too deep on the waistline. The clip is attached to a barbed post that was heated up and pressed into the kydex so it's fully recessed.

Very cool Nathan. I have a coupe of those XDs in .40S&W (3" & 5"). Never played with one in fo-fi before though. :)

Great guns, Erin. This is my first XD-style. This little .45's biggest selling point is that it is single stack, making it extremely thin and concealable. I've got a couple 1911's from Springfield, and they make a great firearm.

Update: added a leather lining to the kydex to protect the finish where the clip mounting post was located. Turned out pretty good I think!
