Got my Evenheat kiln today. Now I'll be able to heat treat and temper at the shop. Because of insurance, I couldn't use my propane furance at the shop. I still plan of using the propane in the nicer weather for O1 but it will be nice this winter not to have to freeze my butt off heat treating outside.
Also, with the larger kiln, 9 and 10 inch camp knives can be made. :D

But that's part of what made your knives so special to us - knowing the sacrifices you made, the pain suffered, the cold endured to make some of the world's greatest cutting tools.:p

Congrats on the new furnace!

Thanks guys. Mike, I've been doing my own heat treating only with a propane furnace. This new one is an electric kiln. I've got two options for heat treating now.

Scott, it wasn't that bad when you showed me how you heat treat that one winter. I still have all my toes. :D

It was a lot of fun though... Congratulations, that shop isn't much warmer in the winter time though :D!

Sounds good Scott, good luck with the wiring and next months electric bill:D

Actually, he may be better off right now. I switched from propane hot water to electric recently because of the cost difference. It does depend on your electric company and how their rates compare to local fuel gas rates but, for a small electrical "appliance" of that sort, it may be better than buying propane right now.

Scott, how many kW is the new kiln? I know those things aren't cheap but I am amazed at how much less they can build those than we can. We do industrial ovens, most every one being custom but have been unable to make the 'price point" in a fab shop. We are pretty competitive if you want something he size of a garden shed or garage though!:D
