I lucked out this weekend :) there is a section in my local paper called the bargain basement reserved for items less than 200$. this one was 95 bucks it runs like a champ, liquid cooled and nicely made.the gentelman that made it is a machinist/sculptor and makes stained glass .after talking for a short while I asked if he would be interested in building a 3 wheel 2x72 and he said he'd love to try one.All i have to do is come up with the contact wheel.
has anyone used treadmill motors/parts in a HMG I'm thinking its got to have some 1-2 HP and a speed controller all in one unit? I know not many people reccomend the hmg setups but a good machine is out of reach for a while and this would be a nice grinder for pretty cheap......cheap imagine that If it runs too good itll cost me a fortune in steel to keep me playing :D

Treadmill motors are not really suited for grinders. The HP rating is also not realistic.A 2HP Baldor motor draws around 14-15 amps.A 2HP treadmill draws around 6 amps?Cooling, bearings, torque, duty cycle, dust protection,etc...all make for problems.

thanks for the help guys :)
I have a home made setup with an 8" wheel right now its kinda the Gorilla grinder  shakes everything off the workbench.I love hollow ground knives and am trying to learn how to do it nicely.
well off to work :(
