  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

A garage sale find, and a nice mate for my mattock.

The stamp on the head is a shield and it appears to say "SL" in the shield, though the S is very hard to read.

Good ole pickaxe! For how much power equipment the municipal gov't uses these days in order to do anything there ought to be a glut of old picks on the market! What you have to do now is figure out uses for yours. Man-hole covers, for one, are lifted by machines these days and every public servant now grubs rocks and roots with a bobcat or backhoe.

From the shape of the forging I'd say you have a vintage tool so it will be made of quality steel. Perhaps you could use it as a volunteer with a local trails association or mountain bike club.

I actually dug with this today, I had never before used a pick ax, only a mattock and a shovel. The pickax changes the game! We have a lot of rocks in our soil and digging with a shovel is a pain, the mattock doesn't make it a lot better. I will never be without a pick ax again, until I move to the desert (all sand) or the nursing home.
