Got a new toy a few days ago. Thought I would show it off. I had a Colt Defender a few years ago and loved it. I missed it from the moment I sold it. I recently bought a Ruger SR1911 and while it looked nice I took it out a couple weeks ago for some serious shooting. It just would not hold a good group. I sold it and was going to use the cash to buying something else. After looking around for a couple weeks I did not really see anything in that price range I really wanted except for a Marlin 45/70 but those are near impossible to find now. Last week a paid a visit to the new gun shop in Smokey Mt Knife Works. I noticed their price on the Defender was about 200.00 less than other stores. So I sold my Team G M to get the extra cash and grabbed it. Replaced the grips with a set of black and brown G10 and dressed it in a Red Dog gun leather holster.

Hey Garth how about doing some sets of Busse grips for the officer size the next time you do a run?

Very nice! I'll be honest I don't think I've ever shot any commander style 1911? No idea why always wanted 1 maybe it's time? Nice score! Congrats!

The Colt Defender is an Officer size. 3in barrel. I have had a Commander size 1911 before the Ruger and it was a tack driver out to 20 yards or so and still had very tight groups out to 50 yds or so. The Ruger did not hold tight enough groups for me to feel comfortable carrying it for defense. Even at 9 yards the best I was doing with it was 6 to 8 in groups and really fell apart out at 15 to 20 yards. Could have just been me but I did try it on two different days with different ammo.
Have not had the Defender out yet, hope it is as accurate as the other one I had.
