I have been doing some wiring work around my house recently, nothing major just some CAT-5 network cables and a few outlets in the shop. To get this done I needed to drill some holes, drive some screws, you know the usual. Well I have an old Makita drill, which still works great, and an old and crappy 7v Black and Decker cordless drill. Decided it was time to get a new tool, so picked up a Milwaukee 18v cordless hammer drill. :D

I was using it all day today and couldn't be happier with its performance. Drilling through wood, sheetrock, steel was no problem. Driving screws without pilots was a breeze. This thing has plenty of power, it snapped the head off of a screw when I tried overtorquing it. Was able to do everything I needed without changing the battery. I haven't had a chance to check out the hammer-drill performance yet, but I am sure it will be great too. I know that the old B&D drill wouldn't have held out thorugh all of the work I did without needing a charge, and the battery is built in so I would have needed to stop working.

My only dissapointment is that I didn't buy the whole kit. A whole kit including the drill, circular saw, sawzall and flashlight would have only been a couple hundred more.

You did the right thing :D
I have that drill, and consider it one of the best purchases I've ever made. Keep it in a toolbag in my truck, because I use it so often.
If you bought it between May 1, and July 5, Milwaukee will send you a free battery or 12V charger, or a Mitchell 3 piece fishing kit.
Got my drill last year, and got a free charger for my truck.
I recently got a 18V "The Hatchet" Sawzall (also in the toolbag:)), but it was purchased on 4-26, so I guess I don't get a free battery this time around like I was hoping. I thought you sent in the thing 5/1-7/5, and actually bought it with that in mind. Crap.
Check out www.heavydutytool.com for info on the promotion. They should have a thing you can print out. I you can't find it, email me your address, and I'll send you my copy to mail in. They need a copy of the receipt, and the original UPC code from the carton.
Must be postmarked by July 31...

Owen,

Thanks for the heads up, I do qualify to get a freebie. I think I will probably go for a free battery, can't have to many of those around.

Might have to buy one of those sets so I can get a free radio too. ;) And is that an EDC there?? :D

That's a CF ArcLite and a crappy old scan I'll replace one of these days.
Got a CF EDC, and ALB, too. Darrel rocks.
This Hatchet is awesome, btw. I fixed a friend's garage door a couple of weeks ago, and had to cut a metal channel while sitting on top of a ladder. Upside down, handle folded, blade edge up-"versatile" might begin to describe it. Course the drill drilled holes, drove wood screws, and 7/16" self-tapping metal screws. I got one of those cheapie Workforce 75 piece sets that has several different kinds of drill bits, driver bits, hole saws, etc. Not the best quality, I'm sure, at ~$25, but it's actually in the truck all the time, not at home in a toolbox, and is real handy.
Anyway, I love a good tool, and really enjoy using these.
You got a great drill.

Those combo sets are tempting. I'm thinking of buying a Jeep. If I do, might have to get one of them to go in it. Or maybe buying the combo set will give me an excuse to buy a Jeep to put it in. Hmmm.

edit:
Your drill is lonely...

ErikD,
We followed similer paths.I had a Mankita 12V cordless and I had an electrician doing some work that involved drilling multiple holes in 1/4 inch steel. He had your drill and I offered him a 1/2 inch corded drill for the job and he said no thanks.I was so impressed with the performance of his drill,I bought my own.I love it,I have to drill through thick steel regularly and it has enough torque to break your arm if you are not careful.I also like the way you can reverse the battery to drill in tight spots. The battery life is also impressive for the power of the drill.
