Recently got this large wood inlay. I got it off ebay, and it was described as desert ironwood. It looks a little different from some other desert ironwoods that I have seen. I showed it to a guy at a knife shop and he said he had never seen desert ironwood with that many lines?? What do you guys think? It didn't have a card with it. Either way it is an awesome knife.

Difficult to say from that photograph, but I'll put my neck on the block and say that's not Desert Ironwood

It's more likely to be Bocote :footinmou ? :footinmou

Either way you have a cool knife :) and that's what really matters !!

It's hard to tell from the lighting in the photo, but it is not a dark wood...has almost a brownish/orange look. As I said, I love the knife regardless, it would just be interesting to know if it is ironwood or not (in case I need a matching mnandi!) Here is another pic

brownish/orange look...

could be cocobolo then...
you can host a bigger pic with imageshack.us

It does look a little like Bocote in your pictures. But I also noticed that CRK's Desert Ironwood is lighter than what I'm used to, and it does look pretty close to Bocote, so it may very well be Desert Ironwood. Here's my a picture of my Desert Ironwood Large Classic, and it looks darker in this picture than it really is:

I'll try to find some pictures of both Bocote and Desert Ironwood taken under the same conditions and post them later.

Maybe these larger pics will help the sebenzanistas solve this mystery. Sorry for the quality...I am new at this technology thing.

Well, I don't have any pictures of just knives alone, but here are a couple that have both knives in them, under the same light and angle... The first one has Bocote Sebenza, and the second one Desert Ironwood. Bocote is a little lighter and has more contrast, while DI is more brown-ish and looks more "solid".

It definitely looks more like the second....but the lines in the wood are fairly straight and parallel. Don't know if that means anything or not.

Yeah I love the knife...just curious since it did not have the birth certificate and was sold to me as desert ironwood.
