So today I picked up a couple new additions to my collections, pictures coming soon! I found out my local ACE hardware store has a case of knives, full of the typical Gerbers, SAKs, and a few Bucks that I haven't seen in other stores. Come to find out, the top section of this case was full of Bear and Case XX knives! (This came as a shock because my hometown ACE hardware only carries Ruko knives.) I picked up two trappers, one by Bear, a little trapper, carbon blades, yellow handles. The other was a Case trapper, full size, also yellow handles, with CV blades. These are my first ever slip joint knives of quality, and am very much looking forward to putting these to use. I also swung by Sears on the way back home and grabbed a Leatherman Crater. 420HC blade, and carabiner/bottle opener. Never used a Leatherman knife so I'm looking forward to testing this one as well.

I've got the Crater (model c33Lx) as well (was bundled with a Leatherman Core I got several years ago). It's not a bad knife. The bottle opener is actually quite handy. It did develop a problem that appears to be with the knife's detent implementation.

Rather than embedding a ball bearing in the liner to secure to the detent while closed, they just made a lump in the actual metal of the liner. It worked fine when new, but after some a while, that lump started getting stuck in the detent rather than sliding out of the way. It hindered opening the blade with the flipper/launcher, although it wasn't as bad using the thumb studs (you can still feel it catch though). It may be there's a scratch or something on the bump or in the detent itself (although I can't see it by looking) that's catching somewhere (maybe because the liner steel is softer than what is typically used for the ball bearing?).

flarp did you try taking it apart and polishing the indent? I think some good TLC aught to make it fast again, otherise, id drill/file it out and put a ceramic ball in its stead
