Hello all,

I just finished a new tutorial on my website showing how to make stainless steel washers to use in folding knives. The washers are made from double edge razors, and they are around .004 inches in thickness. I've started using these washers in almost all of my folders, and I've been very pleased with the results.

I hope this helps some folks, and let me know if anyone has any questions or comments.

Here is the link:

I like the way you supplied pic.'s along with their descriptions.

A neat idea you have; one not limited to knife work.

Chris, that sure has me wanting to make something... :D Ain't it a shame it's a workday? Thanks, that is very interesting, and your tutorials are always very clear and well done. You use the web very effectively.

That's a great tutorial Chris. Seems like it would be easier though to just go to the drill press and hold the thing in your fingers.:D You could really crank them out then!:D :D :D

I have to admit when I first read the title of this thread I thought it was a joke. I mean whats a washer, a round disc with a hole in it, why would anyone need a tutorial on that. After reading the tutorial I understand why. It's amazing what folks can come up with in this business. I really like the way your web site is set up too! I enjoyed the skip joint tutorial, the shop tour and the rest of your web site. Thanks Chris!

It's really not a joke Michael. I have been making copper washers for years. I built a jig with a hardened drill guide for it.....why....well copper washers are hard to find and I like to use them in place of lock washers. The other reason is I make them from pennies. A steel washer costs a nickle. Go figure.

Thanks. We started making these washers after not being able to find any stainless ones as thin as we wanted.

Enco www.use-enco.com has a really great shim punch and die set on sale right now that works excellent. It is part number AT407-8000 and sells for $66.95. I use it on all types of shim stock. Take a look.

You have to go to the Hot Deals section and find it there for the sale pricing.

Thanks Chris
that link looks like it goes to a beginning
frame page?
I have my cookies monster disabled so I can monitor
what's being down loaded on my puter and I can't get in.
are you having a problem with that link??

Graymaker, The page uses single session cookies to check and see if someone connects directly to the turorial window and not the menu. If they do, it redirects the page into a frame and displays the menu also. Sometimes I get carried away with the programming. -chris
