Just recently got a new USN marked Ka-bar. Im a former sailor and wanted a usn not a usmc marked knife. I have 3 Camillus mk2 knives. An early one with a retaining screw on the pommel excelent condition. A US over camillus NY marked knife (NAM era), and a US over Camillus (post 74era) knife. I also have my great uncles Ka-Bar mk2 (ww2 sub service). Also have a MSI mk2 knife, which I just found out is pretty rare.
I have to say the new ka-bar is not the same as the other knives. The leather sheath is shit !! The leather handle which is made nice is quite small and very oval. Its almost a quarter inch smaller than the pommel. One thing I do like is it has what some people call a high grind. It does make the blade look much closer to the real ones I have. The Ka-Bar type of knife has been around and carried for over 70 years, and I do admit I really like these type of knives. I just wish it was made more like the original issue knife.
With all that being said. What is the best way to remove that horrible blade coating?

wow you have a hell of a lot more true experience with USN knives than I do! My big USN Kabar score was at a local antique mart a vendor had a 2000 ish USN MK2 new in the box with a factory sharpened swedge!
