I picked this up today from 'St. Nick's Knife Factory' in Foley, AL. The box also has 'CAT. 4528' and a build date of 9/26/2008. What's the big deal? A black nylon sheath ('Buck 691')... the usual Buck info sheet - and a brass & rosewood 192 with a sideways T (2006) - and a CPM154 blade with a tin-colored polished coating. The box was marked $68 - a true bargain.
I assume that the blades - perhaps the knives - were Bass Pro over-runs. But - a two year old knife blade in a current box? Is that the right number for the B P knife? Does the B P 192 come with a nylon sheath? It was a no-brainer for me - nice blade for a Vanguard. I've said this before - I love the Vanguard - as a 'safe' bushcraft knife! I used my 420HC version for that before I was 'enlightened', ie, found out what others use as bushcraft knives. This may be my next one, especially since the S30V Alaskan Guide version I got several years ago was deemed too pretty to tote in the boonies. I think the nylon sheath has rendered this one a 'user'.
Who else has 'found' this variant? Any others currently out there?
