I just got a new Vantage Pro I dont have any other knives in S30V so I was wondering what angle the grind is and what are you guys sharpening yours at? I usually do 20deg per side but have read that with the S30V you can go with 15 per side.

I can't comment on the grind but I just got mine back from buck and they sharpened it for me too. I swear things jump out of its way its so sharp!

The factory edge on Buck production knives is something called "Edge 2X."

It's 15 degrees per side, 30 degrees included angle.

I haven't had any trouble maintaining those edges.

I've seen some discussion about S30V being "too hard" for a shallow bevel (very acute angle), with recommendations to set the edge at more like 18 deg per side -- even 20 deg/side -- to avoid chipping.

I dunno. If you're not prying stuff or using the knife as a screwdriver, the factory edge should work fine. After all, an outfit that spends all its time trying and testing and making different blades you would expect they'd arrived at this angle empirically.

I've only got a couple in the harder steels, and they haven't given me any trouble. But then I don't beat on them, either.

+1
"Edge 2000" edge from the factory is ~15° per side.
I routinely use the 30° inclusive setting (15° per side) on my Sharpmaker. I have seen no chipping.
