Chopweiler versus Ratweiler.

For those that have both and can speak from personal experience, which do you prefer and why?

Thanks in advance!

I had both, but the chopweiler got sold...

I prefer the old, purely from an aesthetic point of view --- i just like the look of clip points.

But the new one felt great, seems like they changed the handle scales just a bit -- kind of smoothed them out. They feel real good IMO.

Thanks for the info, xaman. Anybody else??? I know somebody else out there must have had their mitts on both of these. Don't be shy now!

I like the Ratweiler but almost purely for nostalgic reasons. It was my first spendy knife. Of course it is a great knife but the chopweiler is super comfy. They improved on all of the faults of hte Ratweiler. The finger groove int he handle of the ratweiler caused me to get a warm spot after using if for awhile. The chopweiler is much more ergonomic. It chopweiler is like a sexy lady. Not that any of you guys would know what that is like but you get the idea.

I have one of each, but just recently got both. I have not had a chance to use either, but here are a couple pics so you can see the difference.

I have both and love both. :)

I like the looks of the old one a bit better but I'm a sucker for clip points. Also, the finger nub gives me a bit more control.

The new one has that very practical drop point and allows for more diverse handle grips, it is also a bit lighter.

Both are winners.

Looks like they basically removed the subhilt and dropped the point. Thanks for the pictures.

They removed the subhilt, shifted the blade to a drop point and removed the thumb ramp.

I've got both but haven't had a chance to use the CW yet. From initial impressions-

* I much prefer the drop point (new)
* I much prefer the finger groove / subhilt (old)
* I much prefer the thumb ramp (old)

Of course, these opinions could change with usage! :)

I don't have an original Ratweiler, but I have to say that the Chopweiler is one hell of a blade. I got to break out my muddy today to whack the crap out of some invasive vines here at home. My wife and I live on a nature preserve and battling alien plants is a favorite pastime. The Chopper does a great job on pesky Asian Bittersweet that's trying to tear our forest down to the ground. Anyone want to get together for a plant killin' party? You can chop, cut and slash to your hearts content.:)

I might be on the coast of Jersey around Christmas. If I am lets go F**k up some exotics!!! In a healthy, wholesome, environmental kind of way, that is.
