Hey guys! ^_^

Ahh it has been a while! Hello! :) Here's another Victorinox appreciation post because, well... because! ^_^

So, my new SAKs are a SwissChamp with wooden scales, and a Silver Alox MiniChamp. My Explorer is in the middle there too but I couldn't leave her out; she's always been there for me. :] <3 I got neat pouches for the newbies too! I have four questions:

1) What kind of wood are my SwissChamp scales made of? It is just the "hard wood" SwissChamp off of Amazon. It would be cool to know what type of wood I have so that I can kind of figure out how it will hold up against life! :] Haha.

2) My brown leather SwissChamp pouch came with a "sharpener", see third photo on the left. What the heck is it and how do I use it? :O

3) Tell me all about your Victorinox collections! I'd love to see them! :] <3

4) How are you today? It's pretty darn warm here in Denver and my cat has been sick all day. -__- So that's me, but I'm still in good spirits as the wooden SwissChamp arrived today :)

Thank you all! Feel free to answer any or none of these questions and I hope you have a great rest of your Saturday! ^_^

1. It's Nussbaumholz, as we say over here. Literally translated to Nut Tree Wood although apparently it's Walnut Wood.
2. The steel is the same as a butchers steel, you technically correct the edge, rather than take material away which you'd do with a regular sharpener. You run the edge along the steel to straighten the edge if it rolled, which softer steels do as opposed to chipping, which harder steel does. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honing_steel
3. I don't own any. Sorry.
4. Long weekend, so no complains right now.

That Swiss Champ is a lot of SAK. Can't see myself ever carrying one. I see you like the pouches, so you carry differently than I do. You can sharpen your SAK with the steel. Either you move the steel or move the knife with the steel stationary. I like a benchstone the best for SAKs. Collections.... don't have a collection; just a pile of SAKs. The weekend is looking good. Hope your cat gets healthy.

Added: A trip to the vet is generally more than any SAK cost at least for us. We have 7 cats. They need their flea treatments soon.

Enough of a pile to swim in them like Scrooge McDuck? :D

View attachment 896293 I like the Titanium SAK’s because you can switch or replace the blades, add pocket clips, and put 1/4” hex holes in the side plates to run the 1/4’ hex screwdriver bits. The knives are assembled with screws instead of rivets.

OMG I didn't know there were ti swiss army knives. And you can put in the tools/blades you want, like legos? :O

One of the guys that makes these customs, Bob Lessard (SAKMODDER), knocks apart new SAK’s, scavenges the parts, CNC’s Titanium handles, and puts everything together with screws. Bob lives in Canada and does excellent work. There is Polish company called ALM that also does these conversions. Both of these “companies” supply in stock models and also do custom work.
I don’t think I am stepping on any toes here because this is such a niche market.

That is awesome. The third down on the right in your pic, scissors, pliers and two blades? Perfect.

View attachment 896329 I carry a couple of SAK’s every day: a money clip and a custom Waiter. But my most used knife by far is a CEM Maniago lobster that was made in 1952. It had 5 blades, but I removed all but one. The blade that is left is a curved jaw, flush cutting cuticle nipper which removes skin tags and hang nails. When you go after hang nails with your teeth, the resulting tear goes down to the bone. The nipper cuts even with the skin which a scissors can’t do. Even the 69 blade Vic. doesn’t have one. The take away is: if the cuticle nipper isn’t in your pocket, teeth will be employed.

Hey you guys! :D

I read all of these posts - y'all are so awesome, thanks for sharing and helping me out! ^_^ Oh! And Flora The Cat is doing much better, thank you all for your kind words. <3 I wanted to specifically add 22-rimfire 22-rimfire to this message because dude. You are so spot on with that vet bill comment. If I could buy a bad ass knife for every time I've taken Flora, or Pablo Picasso (my bunny) to the vet I'd have a seriously cool collection! ;P But they're worth it. :) ♡ Oh also, i've started posting some cool knife pics over on my new Instagram account @milehighdaisy - do any of you have an Instagram account I could follow? :] I also have my old one, sparklygalaxy sparklygalaxy , which I have kind of ditched since I moved to Colorado. In any case it would be really cool if I could follow you cool people there too! :)

I really envy that Wenger

Those mods sound great. I really envy that Wenger wrench/blade.

This is what my SAK accumulation looks like right now. The ones in the small box are duplicates or special editions I don't use (like the Pioneer with Elsener's autograph on the blade). The ones in the plastic tub all get used, even the odd out of production ones.

I really like those wood scales on the SwissChamp. It's a model I must get at some point.

The Wenger Ueli Steck model is a mountain climbers knife that is also used by snow boarders.
