Just acquired a lightly used Victorinox Spartan off a big auction site for cheap, first thing I notice when I pull it out of the box is that the Vic cross shield is painted on like they do with the nylon handled models.
It isn't a knock off, its a genuine Victorinox, I have owned enough to tell. It is the standard red cellidor handles except for the irregular shield.
Is this what Vic is putting on all their new knives?
The tang stamp reads

VICTORINOX
swiss made
stainless

And it has the pin slot under the corkscrew so I know its a newer model.

I really prefer the old standard inlaid metal shield, hope this is just a rarity.

Anyone else seen a recent production cellidor sak with a hot stamped shield?

Maybe its not new production, and/or has a "plus" scale on it thats not new?

I don't know if this will help, but its something to cogitate on:

"The hot-stamped logo was used on the Victorinox economy line between 1979 and 1994." Link to Multitool.org thread.

Also, and in the alternaive, maybe you have "3.3600 Victorinox AN: Cellidor Economy, no toothpick, tweezers, or keyring (example w/hot stamped silver Swiss shield logo)" - Look under "Identifiers" here: Link.

If you run into a dead end, head over to multitool.org, and I'm sure they can hook you up. Good luck.

Thanks powernoodle, it's got toothpick tweezers and keyring, but it's definitely not nylon or plus scales. And the tang stamp is the current one so I know it's not very old. It also has the hole under the corkscrew for a pin like the the current production knives do, so yet another clue that its not very old.

Wish I could find more info, tried searching at multitool.org and didn't see anything already posted about it.

Ive only ever seen them on the economy models. Is it a standard red color version? Love to see a pic if you have one.

Fake scales are painted on. Its also possible since its used, that its a genuine spartan that someone fixed the scales on by replacing them with ones from a knockoff.
