I bought one of these today at a pawn shop , new in a clam pack. !0 bucks. Its my first SAK. Im gonna carry it for awhile and see how I like it. I cant imagine what I will use the corkscrew,or awl on. Im sure Ill find some uses. Other than the knife ,the toothpick will probably be the most used tool on it.

How does the Sportsman II stack up against other SAKs?

The corkscrew is very handy for untying knots , and will hold a nifty little mini screw driver. The Awl is very handy for starting wood screws , scribing , making air holes in jar lids when kids collect bugs etc. The canopener is pretty good for philips screws. All SAK's are of similar quality. It's just a matter of picking a tool line upthat suits you. They are like crack , cheap an addictive. I have put mine thru stuff I would never put a Tacticool thru.

Enjoy,

Chris

The Sportsman models are probably the most versatile two layer SAKs of all.

The awl is a bladesaver. It gets used for all the non cutting applications performed by a typical pocketknife. Poking, scratching, drilling, etc.

It's funny, folks always point out how useful the corkscrew is for untying knots. I must live in a different universe where knots usually need no corkscrew, but wine bottles do. :)

I can't tell ya how many times I have had the only corkscrew at a party. Not all wines come in screw capped bottles. Tweezers are also very nice to have !

Upon first inspection the knife was dull. There was still a burr on it. Now that its sharpened , its a paper and cardboard cutting machine. I guess its that thin flat blade. Im just amazed how fast it zips through paper.

How does it hold a a nifty little screwdriver?

Victorinox makes a grey-handled micro-screwdriver (about the same size head as an eyeglass screwdriver) that threads onto the corkscrew. I have one attached to all of my SAKs with corkscrews. They cost about $1.50, part number 30411.

Here's one installed on a Voyager...

The screwdriver is a must have , if you or anyone in your circle wears glasses .

The awl is actually pretty handy.

The main blades aren't actually always a good choice for poking or stabbing a hole in something.

The awl is actually quite sharp and you'd be surprised at what you could poke a hole in.

It's also good for getting that plastic wrap off of CD/DVD cases, or plastic wrap off of other things.
