Hi folks, I just started forging cleavers this past weekend and I made a short video of the process. It was HOT here in North Carolina when I did this but it was a great time.

Interesting video. The "hot dog" weld was well done.

Out of curiosity, why not use 1084 bar/sheet and do it all in one piece of metal?

Thank you! That weld is enjoyable every single time.

I can't really provide a solid answer to your question other than to say that this is how I make nakiri bocho and it's much more satisfying to actually forge it fully (for me at least). Compared to a lot of the forgers out there now I seem to be a bit of a traditionalist, I guess. This is also what *I* consider to be a forged blade (and this is a subjective standard that is down to the individual-no debate intended or wanted).
