What are the main differences between new and old PowerLock?
I bought one in internet sale shop. In the picture there was a new one but they sent me an old one. The question is - are the differences so significant so that it's worth to make all this returning/exchange process?

10x!

The main differences are (1) improved pliers and wire cutter, (2) gear covers, and (3) a new locking mechanism. In my opinion, it's worth the return/exchange process just for the first two improvements.

It is so frustrating to have to go through a return process for something that should have been right in the first place - like sending you the new model they showed on their site. I'd send it back just on principle alone so they know they need to hold up their end of the deal. On the other hand, it may have simply been an honest error in that they're not "multitool enthusiasts" and may not know the difference. In any case, I'd send it back so they'll now know what the difference is.

well, this is the world were we live
anyway, thanx people, as i thought - i'm gonna return this one.

If you have a local Lowes, you might check to see if they have the new ones yet.

I know SOG sells direct but their prices are really high. I don't have a recommendation for an online seller. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of sellers still have the old version in stock. If you buy online, I'd suggest calling before you order so that you can confirm that what you're getting matches the photo on their website.

One of the differences between the new and old powerlocks is the is the shield over the gears. Instead of one lock per side for multiple tools, the news ones have a piano key style lock (one lock per tool). It also looks like the crimper unit behind the pliers has been changed slightly. There may be some other little changes that I didn't notice- I am basing this purely on comparrison of my old Powerlock to the current listings. I actually prefer the aesthetics of the old powerlock slightly more than the new one- I would have been pleasantly surprised. However, there I go injecting my personal opinion. If the tool is in good working condition, and you are generally satisfied with what your getting- I wouldn't waste my time and money (do you loose out on shipping both ways? how about a restock fee?) If the new Powerlock means all that much to you, by all means, go for it- return it.

Finally i've got my PowerLock - and i like it!:thumbup: Great tool!!
I want to ask you some - i've read in same thread of yours long ago about the component changes you've made to yours.. can't find it.. can you tell what exactly? and where from the additional components can be ordered - only directly from the SOG factory?

10x in advance!

slavpek,

Glad you like it! SOG has an online catalog of the components: http://www.sogknives.com/store/components.html

You can also order by phone:
425-771-6230
888-405-6433 (US Only)

The 3" straight blade has a double bevel and it's scary sharp. I usually replace the combo blades in my PowerLocks with the straight blades. I've also bought scissors, adapters, saws, etc... Btw, a new wire stripper component is scheduled to be released in a month or so.
