New vs. old Sharpmakers

I have the original Sharpmaker, with one set of stone holes, and was told by Spyderco that the new version's stones won't fit in my base. Damn. Assuming that's true, other than packaging and having two angles on the new one, are there any differences between the original model and the current one? Is there an angle difference between mine and the new model's 15/20 degree bevel options?

I'm going to reply to my own message. First of all, Spyderco's customer service gave me the wrong answer to my question about the new and old ceramic rods- Sal, please let your folks know that the current Sharpmaker rods DO FIT the original sharpmaker base. The ceramic rod dimensions are IDENTICAL. I'm going to keep the new one because of the second bevel option, and the case, but I'm upset that such a simple answer from the mfr. was wrong.
