Starting to have interest and just bought a Estwing A24 camp axe from Lowe’s. I bought there because they were cheaper new (with 10% military discount) then used on EBay. Is there any reason the older ones are getting more money than new? I did notice they were going off the shelves fast at Lowe’s and Home Depot . And $10 cheaper than Cabelas

I'm not sure what you mean by this? do you mean used ones are getting more money than new?

I'm not aware that estwing has changed construction or steel quality in the last 50 years. They are a really good american made value as far as I'm concerned.

I stand corrected. I do mean it looks like the older used Estwings are selling for the same or more than new ones

Probably because buyers and sellers on ebay are insane. There must be a ton of people with more dollars than sense, and they all plague ebay. Lately whenever I look for something there I end up getting discouraged and give up.

Understood and agreed. Just wondering if I was missing anything about the “vintage” Estwings.
The leather sheaths are nice but if they get funky I’d rather be washing a synthetic sheath anyway

buy a new one, use it, get patina on it, then it'll be vintage after a good bit of use!
Got the new one. Finished the edge to paper slicing sharp. I’m going to strip the varnish off the leather and treat. I like a medium polish on the steel. Easy to keep nice and clean. I think the high priced ones on eBay have the leather sheath. Cordura is fine for me. This hatchet has and will be used. Synthetic is easy to clean
