I haven't been to Walmart in a few weeks, but I think this was a new light I saw tonight. I remember it as a Brinkman brand light that apparently runs on 2 123 lithium cells and looks vaguely like a Surefire G2. It was only 19.99; I was tempted to grab one to see how bright it really was and what kind of runtime it had. Has anyone played with one of these yet?

Saw the same thing in Target for the same price. The package said that it was brighter than a 3D cell light which would make it dimmer than a surefire.

You're speaking of the Legend LX's replacement, the Maxfire LX. A mere shadow of the original, IMHO.

Oh, and the Legend LX kills the P60 in throw and edges it out in total output. MN03 is further behind. Too bad its NLA... :(

Thanks for the links and info. I might just have to go buy one now ... Doesn't seem like a bad deal for $20.

I've had one of these Maxfire LX's for the last 4 months. Its really a great light. excellent output and very good quality reflector. I'm going to pick up a second one to keep in my blazer. I personally dont think you can go wrong with one of these. A great value.

I've had two for about 3-4 months, now and I compared the beam to a SureFire Nitrolon (both with brand new batteries) and was quite impressed. Also, the Brinkman is compatable with the reflector thing assembly to the SureFire.
For 20 bucks it has proven to be a sturdy light with about the same 1 hour burn time as the Nitrolon.
I mounted one on my AR and the other stays in the car. The only "test" mine received was an accidental drop of 5 1/2-6feet (light was on) when it rolled off a shelf onto a stone tile floor. No damage to lens/body/etc.

Monty, nice review. IMO you should loose the tiled background, too distracting.

Nice review, thanks. Does it mention water resistance at all? I'm not in the US so this is just idle curiosity, but if its somewhat resistant to wet its got to be a must have for all motorists.

I have had 1 for like 4 months and just bought another a few weeks ago to leave in my car full time. I like it as well as my G2 minus the coolness of the Surefire logo and the slimness. I like it LOADS better than the Legend LX because the huge head on that thing made it too big for pocket carry for me. My first has survived a drop into the toilet and the subsequent 10 minutes during which I searched for a clean way to get it out. It was on the whole time. I took it out, washed it thoroughly, then dried it. It works just as well as when I first got it. By the way, Target has them for $16.99 with Energizer batteries (mine was from Walmart and came with crappy batts) and a belt holster. A smoking deal if you ask me.

I have two of each. Both of the newer (polymer) versions are noticeably brighter than the older, metal models. I find it next to impossible to use the switch on the metal (Legend) version in "momentary" mode, but it's a snap with the polymer version. It's more compact as well.

In my experience, the polymer version is better in just about every way.

The packaging says simply "Water Resistent". Didn't do any type of dunk test, pained me enough to drop test it several times but I held up just fine.

Related question - Anyone run across an appropriate case for carrying the Maxfire? The case it comes with is totally worthless for this light, doesn't fit although it is a great fit for a mini-mag.

Thanks,
Monty
