Doggone it! I was so impressed by this stupid thing I had to post about it.

My daughter has long hair and a couple of times a year manages to clog the sink drain with it. This morning was one of those times. I was at Home Depot to get some other odds and ends and decided to get some drain cleaner there instead of getting it at the grocery store like I usually do. I couldn't find it so I asked a clerk. He asked what kind of clog I was tying to fix. When I told him, he said, "Oh, you don't want drain cleaner, you want one of these." It was a silly little plastic strip with hooks on it. Cost me a couple of bucks. Worked like a champ.

I found a you-tube on it. I had less problems using it than the guy on the video, but the results were just as impressive.

Yup, those things work.

The clog is just about always in the trap just a foot or so below the sink, so that two-foot-or-so long thing is all you need. It's better than messing around with strong chemicals and faster than disassembling the trap. And if you're worried about odor and such, just have a bucket of water handy to put the thing in so you can take it outside to hose off.

Those do work pretty well! Better than getting the 25' snake out of the garage and dealing with the spin-off, and they'll pull out most clogs just fine.

...Including whatever Wookie your girlfriend/wife/etc. has managed to save up in the drain. :D

That is at the top of my list for the next trip to the hardware store. I'm ready to trash the metal screens that are on everything around here.

heh. i just cut a couple feet off my spool of 14 ga. wire and bend a hook on the end. works perfectly.

Wow that's gross...

How long have these been around? I made a similar (and admittedly slightly less effective :D) tool out of a really big zip tie that I cut little notches into to clear a drain at my camp. That was about 4 or 5 years ago
