This may not mean anything to most of you but some may find it helpful.
I'm making a sheath for a very large golok style chopper. The blade has quite a bit of curve and is a lot wider at the tip.The sheath will be partly open at the back but I wanted the welt to fit as tight as possible.
I hate to waste expensive leather so after drawing my pattern on poster paper,I traced it onto a large pine board.I then lined off where I thought my welt should be and set a bunch of finish nails along my welt line.
I was able to slide the blade along the path made by my finish nails to make sure my welt placement was correct.
